Basket of Kikooko Education Fund
(BOKEF)
Providing quality education for Uganda's brightest minds, from primary school through university
Every Child Deserves Quality Education
At Kikooko Foundation, we believe that every child deserves access to quality education. Yet, in Uganda, this remains a privilege rather than a right. While privately-run schools offer better resources and qualified teachers, the cost of tuition places them out of reach for many families living on subsistence incomes.
For years, we have been on a mission to bridge this gap, ensuring that passionate and talented students are not left behind simply due to financial hardship. Through general donations and individual sponsorships, we provide children with the opportunity to gain knowledge, build careers and transform their communities.

BOKEF Sponsorship Structure
We support students at every stage of their entire educational journey – from primary school through university completion.
Our comprehensive sponsorship program covers the following educational levels:
Ugandan Education System

Primary School
Ages 6-13, covering 7 years of foundational education
Secondary School
Ages 14-18, covering 6 years (4 years O-Level, 2 years A-Level)
University
Undergraduate and graduate programs, typically 3-5 years

The BOKEF Sponsorship Process
Student Selection
Our local team, led by Lydia Ankwasa, identifies students with both significant need and strong academic potential.
Sponsor Matching
Sponsors choose a specific child or educational level that aligns with their giving capacity.
Direct Support
100% of sponsorship funds go directly to school fees and essential educational needs.
Ongoing Communication
Sponsors receive letters, photos, and academic updates from their sponsored student. Nadine coordinates correspondence in Europe; Warren personally carries letters to Uganda; and Lydia ensures they reach each child on the ground — with replies sent back the same way. Sometimes visiting Kikooko Africa Safaris clients carry letters in both directions too.
Completion & Community Impact
Graduates often return to support their communities, creating a sustainable cycle of education and opportunity.
Beyond Tuition: Creating Holistic Support
While school fees are the primary expense, students often need additional support to thrive. Through BOKEF, donors can also provide:
Essential Items
Health Support

Become a BOKEF Sponsor Today

Staying connected with your sponsored child
We have a well-established system to make sure letters, photos, and messages travel reliably between sponsors and students — coordinated by Nadine in Europe, Warren during his trips to Uganda, and Lydia on the ground. Some Kikooko Africa Safaris clients even carry letters in both directions when visiting Uganda.
Letter Writing
Write an English letter to your sponsored child — photos or postcards are welcome too. Letters are collected by Nadine, carried to Uganda by Warren, and delivered by Lydia directly to each student. Replies travel back the same way.
Email Communication
Since postal service in Uganda can be unreliable, emails are printed and hand-delivered to your sponsored child. Responses are scanned and returned to you.
Translation Assistance
If English isn't your first language, we're happy to help translate your letters so nothing gets lost between you and your sponsored child.

Personal Visits
Many sponsor relationships grow into lasting friendships. Some sponsors have travelled to Uganda to meet their sponsored child in person — including attending graduations. We can support planning and logistics for your visit.
100% Direct Impact
100% of your donation and sponsorship is used directly on site. No costs or fees are deducted from the donated amounts.
Donations are used exclusively for the children. For example, for hygiene articles, education, mattresses, clothing, school books, and health care.
Administrative costs are covered separately. Travel and other costs that do not constitute direct aid are borne solely by the founding members of Kikooko and volunteers, never from external donations.
Support Education in Uganda
Every child deserves the chance to learn, grow, and build a brighter future. Your support can make this possible.
